MISSIONS
2011: Peru
Amazon River Mission
May 28th (Sat) - June 4th (Sun)
This
mission is designed to bring medical/dental care to
the remote communities on the Madre de Dios River. Peru
is home to some of the most untouched portions of the
Amazon Basin. For bird watchers, Peru is a true paradise.
Macaws and parrots fill the sky at dusk.
We
will be based at the Eco-Amazon Lodge for 5 nights.
We will travel via motorized canoes (see photo) to reach
these communities. Your bungalow has private shower
and toilet. The flora and fauna include endangered jaguars,
howler monkeys, tapirs, pink freshwater dolphins, giant
river otters, manatees, and an incredible array of tropical
birds and plants.
During
our mission we will take time to explore the diversity
of medicinal plants and learn about the local peoples
that we will help. Space is limited to 16 due to the
space on the motorized canoes.
Donation
for the Mission is $1985 (Please see the itinerary
for all that is covered).
